I have a labradoodle named Rainbow, whom we got at the age of about six months from a breeder. She is now almost 2 years old, and still isn’t house trained—she pees outside regularly, but only poops outside sporadically. We’ve tried nearly everything–we’ve taken her to classes, we’ve read books, we used wee-wee pads outside to encourage her, we take her for long walks and go nuts with enthusiasm and treats when she does her business outside.
We think it may have something to do with her personality–she is one of the most timid and submissive dogs I have ever seen, and she gets nervous easily. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Is there anything we haven’t tried? Could she be constipated all the time or something (although I don’t think this is it because we’ve had the right balance of food for a while now)?
Also, we have a bell on the door that she rings whenever she wants to go outsied
The people saying that this isn’t a real breed: Fine. Okay. But she WAS bred with care from a careful, reputable breeder. She was bred for her wonderful temperament, which has succeeded quite nicely. She is ridiculously smart, she is adorable, and she is the most loving, mellow creature. And she isn’t just lab and poodle–she has like 5 other breeds in her to ensure that she has those temperaments. She has wheaten, portugese water dog, and others. And we have a pedigree of her lineage to her great-great-great-great grandparents. It isn’t some backyard breeder.
Also, we had a really bad experience with a shelter dog. He seriously injured my little brother even after we did everything in our power to keep him and we had to give him away, and my mom didn’t want that to happen again.
Dealing with dogs with natural instinct and drive for a job...?
