Hello fellow Amazonians! Today I am reviewing the FURminator Long Hair deShedding Tool for Large Dogs. First let me say, WOW! Where has this thing been all these years?!

We purchased this tool after recently adopting a Golden Retriever puppy, of all the dogs I have had.... This dog is one of the best at shedding! After hearing all the hype and hoopla (and being sick of fur EVERYWHERE) and even a recommendation from our vet (surprised by that?) I went ahead and purchased it.

Pros:
-Not JUST a brush, the tool thins your dog's fur leaving less to shed on your carpet.
-Easy to use.
-FURejector button proves very helpful with the sheer amount of fur the tool removes.
-Dog didn't seem to mind it.
-EFFECTIVE.

Cons:
-Can not be used as a stand alone grooming tool, best if used in conjunction with an undercoat rake at MINIMUM to remove mats and knots in the fur prior to using this tool.Oster Professional Pet Grooming Undercoat Rake, 18 Teeth Wide, Coarse

Also, for any who may ask about the frequency of use... Some say to use the FURminator once a month, others say every grooming session. The honest answer seems to be; use your discretion. If you can get by using a standard brush and use the FURminator once a month, do so. If shedding is persistent and doesn't get any better after the first use, give it another go. In my experience, shedding has drastically reduced after one 10-15 minute session with the FURminator and an undercoat rake.

P.S. Ty is the name of our Golden Retriever. In case you were wondering. :)

I love my little shih tzu. He’s a sweetie. If you look into the breed though, you may want to look at getting a girl, as they tend to be much smaller than the boys.

i wouldnt recommend a chihuahua. they bark alot
try a daschund theyre nice and really cute(:

We have two labs. Both shed a lot. This tool does do a good job of stripping the excess hair and reducing the hair on the floor. Make sure you use minimal pressure when combing your dog since the teeth are sharp and it does irritate their skin if you are not aware of this (had to go through this learning curve ourselves). By biggest problem (and the reason I rated them 3-stars) is after 5 - 6 months we found the teeth started to wear down or chip off. When we went to replace the blade we found that few offer replacement blades and those who do charge you almost the same as buying a new comb. I think it is over priced. We have seen other products that professional groomers use on show dogs that are actually cheaper or the same price and from what I have read, work the same and are more durable. In some cases these other brands have rounder teeth so they don't irritate the skin as easily. I am looking into one of those products now. Bottom line.....FURminator works but is over priced and they get you again once the blades need to be replaced. Hope this helps a few people out.

The Shih Tzu is a very furry small dog, so lovely as a companion, but doesn’t learn fast. I have a Toy Poodle, she has very curly thick hair. Toy Poodles are considered to be very intelligent (the most intelligent dog breed is the Border Collie and secondly the Poodle!) Give them a regular exercise (walk and play) schedule and they are they are happy!
There is also the German Spitz
